After a pulsating start to the season, it’s Arsenal who lead the way at the top of the Women’s Super League.
Their North London rivals Tottenham also have 12 points from 12, while defending champions Chelsea have recovered from their opening weekend defeat to win three on the bounce.
There were a number of notable individual performances in September as established stars proved their quality and rising talents made a name for themselves.
GIveMeSport Women have selected the six most in-form players from the first month of the campaign and it’s now up to you to decide who should win the GMS Fans’ September Player of the Month award.
Beth Mead
When Arsenal brought in the likes of Nikita Parris and Mana Iwabuchi, the future of Mead looked uncertain.
The England star was underwhelming for much of last season and missed out on the Great Britain squad at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.
Sam Kerr
Emma Hayes made the bold decision to rest Kerr on the opening weekend against Arsenal, which proved disastrous as the Blues lost 3-2 to the Gunners.
The Chelsea boss cited the need for the Australian to have a rest following a busy summer, though she has started every game since then and made her mark in all of them.
Last season’s golden boot winner has picked up where she left off –– scoring twice against Everton in a 4-0 win and then bagging another brace against Man United in a 6-1 thrashing at the Leigh Sports Village.
The 28-year-old has well and truly found her form in England after a difficult start to life at Chelsea and looks to be one of the favourites to top the scoring charts again.
Ella Toone
Man United lost a number of their key players in the summer transfer window, but they successfully held on to Toone, who has become the focal point of the Red Devils side.
The 22-year-old helped United gain promotion from the Championship and has gone from strength to strength ever since.
In September, the English forward contributed three assists in three games and also scored a sumptuous long-range effort from outside the box against Leicester.
Her performances so far this campaign have also impressed Lionesses coach Sarina Wiegman, who awarded Toone a start in both of England’s recent internationals.
However, the 26-year-old has made a fine start to this campaign and has been the Gunners stand out performer.
Two goals against Chelsea helped Jonas Eidevall’s side inflict Chelsea’s first league defeat since February. A week later, Mead notched another goal in a 4-0 win against Reading.
Operating predominantly on the right flank, the forward also registered three assists in September –– emphasising her creativity and the understanding she’s built up with the prolific Vivianne Miedema.
Emma Koivisto
Brighton ended last season in fine form and they’ve started this season impressively as well, picking up two wins in September.
Koivisto has been an integral part of the Seagulls defence, which kept back-to-back clean sheets in their opening two games.
The full-back also scored against Birmingham in a resounding 5-0 victory for Hope Powell’s side.
Rebecca Spencer
Spurs have been the surprise package of this season so far, picking up maximum points from their four games.
Much of this success has been a result of resolute defensive displays, with the team conceding just the one goal this campaign.
Spencer has been particularly outstanding in goal, coming up with a string of fine saves against Man City as Spurs secured a memorable win.
The 30-year-old signed for Tottenham on a free transfer in 2019 and has established herself as one of the best shot-stoppers in the league.
Remi Allen
Allen arrived at Villa from newly-promoted Leicester this season and scored against her old club as Carla Ward’s side won 2-1.
The 30-year-old followed up her dream debut with another goal against West Ham –– this time a last gasp stoppage-time equaliser.
Having spent almost five years at Reading, as well as time at Birmingham and Notts Country, Allen has bags of WSL experience and looks to be an astute signing by Ward.
