The Goalkeepers
Nominee: Václav Hladky
Salford City narrowly missed out on the League Two play-offs and they have the excellent performances of goalkeeper Václav Hladky to thank for going so close.
The Czech Republic international was ever-present in the Salford side this term and as reliable a performer as they come – making the second-most saves (125) and keeping the second-most clean sheets (20) in the division.
The Defenders
Nominees: William Boyle, Ricardo Santos
Cheltenham Town won the League Two title and secured promotion to the third tier in 2020/21, with William Boyle’s contributions at both ends of the pitch vital.
The central defender was a commanding presence at the back and a solid part of Cheltenham’s backline, while his dominance in the air saw him win 184 aerial duels and score six times.
The defensive brilliance of Ricardo Santos was key for Bolton as a phenomenal late-season run saw them storm to third place and secure automatic promotion to League One.
The centre-back was there time and time again to stop opposition attacks in 2020/21, making 286 clearances and winning 222 aerial duels.
The Midfielders
Nominee: Callum Guy
Few players were more integral to their side than Callum Guy was to Carlisle United in the 2020/21 campaign.
The 24-year-old ran the show from central midfield, pulling the strings offensively as he added a league-high 14 assists and bossing things out of possession – making the second-most tackles in the division (113).
The Forwards
Nominees: Carlos Mendes Gomes, Paul Mullin
Morecambe surprised many in 2020/21 by securing promotion to League One for the first time in their history.
Simply put, they could not have done it without the brilliance of forward Carlos Mendes Gomes, who dazzled and overwhelmed defences – scoring 16 times and adding five assists.
Paul Mullin showcased just what a lethal striker he is last term, scoring 32 goals in League Two – 13 more than any other player – as well as adding four assists.
Cambridge United’s goal machine fired them to promotion to the third tier in what was a remarkable single-season effort from the striker.
