Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been named the FLW Fans’ Championship Player of the Season after winning an impressive 60% of the public vote.
You’d have been forgiven for forgetting that 2020/21 was Toney’s first season at Championship level because the Bees’ summer signing was dominant throughout – scoring 33 times and adding 10 assists.
The 25-year-old was a talismanic figure for Brentford and bullied opposition defenders as they secured promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, including scoring the opener against Swansea City at Wembley.
Toney’s brilliant form has been rewarded as he’s been named the FLW Fans’ Championship Player of the Season, having earned a massive 60% of the fan vote.
Barnsley centre-back Michael Helik received the second-highest share with 30%, followed by Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong with 5%.
Swansea City goalkeeper Freddie Woodman (3%), Norwich City playmaker Emi Buendia (2%), and Watford defender Adam Masina (1%) were also nominated.
